FANS of The Simpsons could be in for a tough ride later this year, after it was revealed that producers are planning on killing off one of the main characters.
On Friday, the show’s producer Al Jean revealed that one of the show’s regulars is set to meet a sticky end the the up and coming series, which mark’s the shows 25th season.
However, he managed to remain tight lipped on who the unlucky person will be.
“I’ll give you a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is,” he said, during a press conference.
But, the clue does little to narrow it down, given that the show has won 25 Emmys for voiceover performances since 1992.
Cast members have nothing to worry about though, because most actors voice more than one character in the show, which has been running since 1989.
A character on the show hasn’t been killed off since Maud Flanders, who passed away 14 years ago.
Coral bookmakers have installed Edna Krabappel as the 5-1 favourite to be killed off, while Sideshow Bob and Comic Book Guy are also a strong possibilities, according to the betting shop.
However, it is unlikely that Homer or Marge will face the chop at 100-1.
“Punters are queuing up to bet on which Simpsons character dies in the latest series, and so far we have been inundated with bets on Bart’s long-suffering teacher Edna Krabappel being the latest victim”, commented Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
“It’s not often that a character from The Simpsons is killed off, so we expect to see plenty of speculation and floods of money on this market”, she added.
The producer also confirmed that a number of famous faces will make their way into Springfield this year, including Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifinakis and Elisabeth Moss.
